Product Review
Product Name: Weider 32% Protein-Bar
Price: 1/5
Taste: 4/5
Effectiveness: 3/10
Overall: 8/20
 Description:
That strange stylised image that appears on all Weider products could lead you to believe he's some kind of Kernel Kentucky of the bodybuilding world (what that would entail I have no idea...). Unfortunately this bar is no-where near the lofty heights of good old KFC in terms of quality.
The Weider 32% Protein-Bar is to me a mystery; I can't tell if it's intended as a light snack that meanwhile gets you some protein, or a portable substitute for protein shakes. If it's the latter then it certainly fails to deliver; it's only really good for providing those with more money than sense with a (very tastey) chocolate bar that you can enjoy with out feeling completely guilty (although you should still feel guilty).
To be honest though I doubt it's really meant to be either of those things. What it's really meant to be is a scam to trick those too gullible to read the nutritional information and those who blindly trust the Joe Weider name. Good thing they're delicious or I might be fuming.
Let's look at the facts. The bar contains about 19.2 grams of protein for every 60 grams of bar, this is compared to 46-50 grams for the same amount of whey. This isn't great, especially if you bare in mind that humble tinned corned beef will get you around 16 grams and for a lot cheaper.
The bar also contains 27 grams of carbohydrates for every 60, compared to 1-3 for a good protein shake. I'm eating a chocolate moose right now (I'm a rebel) and that only has 19 grams of carbohydrates.
Now if you consider that one bar costs £2 you can see why it's pointless - you'd be better off buying a fresh tuna sandwich from a sandwich shop and a chocolate moose; it would cost you about the same and be far more beneficial.
Sorry Joe, not this time.
