What This Calorie Counter Tells Us

So... what was that all about? Well if you read the article on 'What Are Calories' then you should be familiar with the terms AMR and BMR which our calories calculator has calculated for you... But just in case you forgot:

BMR: Basal Metabolic Rate - This means that this is the amount of calories you need in order to control your bodily functions such as breathing, beating your heart etc etc. Your body uses this many calories just to survive then, and if it can't get them from your food it will get them by burning your fat stores.

AMR: Active Metabolic Rate - However most of us need more calories than it takes to maintain our bodily functions because most of us actually do something. Thus your active metabolic rate is how many calories your body uses taking into account the amount of physical activity you engage in.

In other words then this calories calculator will provide you with two figures: the amount of calories it takes for your body to function, and the amount of calories you use up in a day. Thus you will be able to use the calorie counter to gain or lose weight in a controlled manner - by counting the calories you eat yourself, and then ensuring they are just less than the amount you use in a day to lose weight, or just more than that in order to gain weight.

However to lose weight you should not go below your BMR - rather increase your activity and then consume fewer calories than your AMR. And if you need to measure your progress then just head back here to use the calories calculator.
