Finishing Moves
By Adam Sinicki
They say that violence is never the answer, but to be honest that really depends on the question (what starts with 'v' ends with 'ence' and describes aggressive action?). Sometimes a fight can't be avoided and in that case you may as well end it as quickly and easily as possible. Below then are some useful techniques that can quickly put an oponent out of action and allow you to get away.
Attack mid-sentence. Start talking and then hit them before you finish the sentence. They wont be able to block and won't know what hit them (you did) as your brain naturally wants to wait for the end of the sentence.
Dead leg / Coccyx. Two playground favourites that are actually great self defence. Give someone a dead leg, or kick them straight in the coccyx and then run. To successfully dead-leg someone you simply need to swing your leg up and hit them in the upper leg/lower hip with your knee. While this doesn't do any damage it does mean that they won't be able to chase after you.
Bend their little finger. If youre in a head lock, or some other kind of hold then (assuming you dont like it) the easiest way to break free is to grab their little finger and wrench it backwards. Break it if necessary. However strong they are your whole hand should be able to bend one little pinky. Unless youre just a complete wuss. This saved me from getting mugged once!
Twist their head. Want to impress a babe by taking down someone bigger than yourself? Well now you can (it's wrong though - big people have feelings too...). Simply walk up to your brute of choice, grab their head with both hands on either side and then twist it to the left hard. Theyre going down. If they dont their neck will break. That makes you a murderer holding a mans head that you just snapped off not a good way to impress a babe. Trust me though, theyll go down. If you want to take someone down from behind, which you shouldnt want to do but hey Im not going to judge you, then a similar technique is to clamp your hand on the top of thier head and forcefully pull it backwards and push down. The problem is that their centre of gravity is so far away from their head theyll quickly lose balance. They are then likely to crack their head on the pavement. Are babes impressed by manslaughter? Maybe this is why I'm unlucky in love...
Dealing with a suspected intruder. Hopefully youll never have to do this, but incase you do here's what to do. Its not really a self defence move as much as another psychological trick but basically if youre looking around your house for an intruder you mustnt creep around carefully but instead stamp and enter each room loudly and noisily. This will startle anyone hiding in the shadows and put the element of surprise back in your possession and giving you time to act. If you stalk around silently then they are likely to burst out of the darkness and scare the crap out of you - this way it is they who will be off-guard.
Step back hands up. The biggest problem is not when someone attacks you, but when they intimidate you and act as though they are going to attack you. You cant just hit them if youre a decent guy, you have to wait for them to make the move but youre likely a bit jumpy and possibly too slow to respond. Well, not a problem for readers of The-Biomatrix.net! To counter this situation simply change your position step back with one foot, raise your hands to about chest height and hold your palms facing outward.
This position is neutral, the open palms show honesty and openness and this may be enough to calm your aggravator. However, there is another advantage - the fact that your weight is back and one foot is forward means they cant get in close to slip in a knife or nut you. Meanwhile, the fact that your hands are raised means that youre ready either to block or throw a punch quickly - it's essentially just an open handed guard. They cross that line, you put out their lights. |
