Naturally Increase Your Dopamine LevelsBy Adam SinickiHow to Naturally Increase Dopamine Dopamine is a neurotransmitter in the brain meaning that it helps the brain to carry signals. It is also something of a miracle chemical that does many of the things that we consider to be important for positive function. For instance the fact that it helps to lubricate the transmissions in the brain means that it is able to speed up our thinking and generally improve mental alertness and memory tasks. At the same time it is important for emotions and in particular is the chemical that the brain releases as a 'reward' - when we eat, when we sleep or when we work out. The release of dopamine in our brains is largely then what motivates us to do various things so that we can receive more of the reward chemical, and so without it we would find that we did not have the same motivation and drive. Of course with lots of reward chemical in our brain I abundance it would leave us feeling highly up beat and positive and full of emotions we would normally consider to be positive. It may help with social skills and prevent depression. Finally dopamine is also very important for our motor skills and is a key player in our motor cortex where the brain regulates movement. Without any dopamine at all we would be unable to move (though excess levels may result in twitching and fidgeting). So as a rule dopamine is something that we should very much aim to attain. There are many supplements out there which aim to help us do just that, but furthermore there are also lots of ways you can achieve this goal naturally. Here we will list some ways to naturally increase our dopamine. 1. Have ripe bananas in your diet. As they ripen they produce 'dopamine quinine' which is a natural form of dopamine. The brown patches on the banana actually indicate the areas where it is the most concentrated. If you can't stomach ripe bananas, then try mashing it with milk and sugar. 2. Add lots of antioxidants to your diet. These eliminate free radicals that are responsible for damaging cells as well as for lowering dopamine. Antioxidants are abundant in most fruits but are also in tuna, omega 3 fatty acid and vitamin C. 3. Avoid sugary foods and saturated fats. These reduce dopamine too. 4. Regulate caffeine - if you want to have an immediate surge of dopamine then a cup of coffee will stimulate the pituitary gland to release dopamine. However this can also be followed by a trough with no dopamine, so don't rely on it. 5. Raw almonds or sunflower seeds are also a great way to increase dopamine. 6. Supplement with amino acids. Amino acids found in proteins are great for the muscles but also for maintaining the brain. These are a great way them to increase the release of dopamine. 7. Go running or work out - after this many 'happiness hormones' are released and this includes the neurotransmitter dopamine.
