Maximuscle's Pump Up is their brand of nitric oxide, a supplement that's recently garnering a lot of attention and rightly so. Upon first taking nitric oxide you'll be impressed to find that you immediately get feedback that it's working as your muscles swell and harden and your veins bulge (just realised that that sounds a little dodgy... it wasn't meant to). The point is though, while you'll often end up taking a supplement (I'm looking at you energy shots) and then examining yourself for any possible sign that it's working, often unsure as to whether it's a placebo effect, this won't be the case with nitric oxide. Whatever else you think of it, it does something.
So what, theoretically is that 'something'? Well NO2 products contain something known as arginine which works to relax the blood vessels thereby increasing blood flow through the veins and arteries in a process known as vasodilation. This has many effects, leading firstly to the larger protruding veins that are sought after by bodybuilders. More than just aesthetically pleasing however, these veins also supply more blood to the muscles resulting in the hard firm appearance and feel that we know as 'pump' (and that Schwarzenegger described as better than cuming). While it's probably not quite that great, it definitely feels good and gives you a feeing that the work you're doing in the gym is actually achieving something. This along with catching your reflection and seeing yourself looking twice as big can do great things for your motivation and result in some of the best gym sessions you'll experience in a while (and you stand a just marginally better chance of pulling the girl on the treadmill too).
This makes NO2 a great supplement to boost your workout, but you can also use it at other times when you fancy a quick confidence boost. Heading to the beech? Why not pump yourself with nitric oxide first? And at the same time it will even increase your skin tone and complexion too. What's of even more interest though for most guys looking for a vanity boost is that it can also give you a bigger and harder erection through the same process of increasing blood flow. You're probably not even going to read the rest of this review...
The effects are more than just psychological and aesthetic however, as all that extra blood flow means that your muscles are being supplied with more oxygen and more nutrients more quickly helping you to go for longer on each set. Coupled with the ego and motivational boost of seeing yourself looking so pumped this can result in some of the best workouts you're likely to have had in a long while.
And then I read that using nitric oxide could improve muscle hardness and growth in the long term just from taking it too. I thought that sounded a bit dubious but from my own experience it actually seems to be true and after a couple of weeks I noticed I looked more defined and vascular when I wasn't even taking it. I'm not sure how this would work, but increased muscle growth could be explained by the fact that as a 'cell-signalling' molecule it instructs your DNA to utilise more protein fibres in the cells. In other words, the 1-2 hour window of optimal growth (the time you're encouraged to take your protein shake) is extended to 10-12 hours, meaning you'll maximise the growth potential of everything you eat and every time you exert yourself.
Downsides? Well the supplement is expensive and the tablets are... gigantic. So much so that I managed to bring mine up whole several times before finally digesting them. But really these weaknesses pale in comparison to the strengths. And there you have one of the shortest paragraphs on 'downsides' that you'll find anywhere on this site.
In short NO2 will get you looking how you want to look immediately, but it'll improve the quality of your workouts and through this and other mechanisms it'll eventually mean you look like it all the time. To conclude then Nitric Oxide is one of the best supplements on the market and should be in every serious bodybuilders stack - and Maximuscle Pump Up is as good a brand as any.
