Robin Sieger's 42 Day ChallengeBy Helen Clark
New Year is often a time for good intentions and a determination to shake off bad habits. As we struggle to improve ourselves these efforts are often short-lived and we end up giving up all too soon... But help is at hand - Robin Sieger is a international author, corporate speaker and motivator who has written several successful books, including ‘Natural Born Winners’ which has been sold in over sixty countries worldwide and in 2004 was turned into a television series. His most recent book ’42 Days to Wealth, Health And Happiness’ encourages the reader to take control of their lives over a six week period - enough time to create new habits that will last the test of time. I was involved in the pilot scheme just before this book was published and although the challenge was tough at times it does encourage the reader to focus on having a positive outlook as well as leading a healthier lifestyle. The book follows three qualities that make us who we are: The Mind – Including the daily practice of meditation and visualisation for 20 minutes each morning. There are some tips given at the back of the book on how to achieve this time of quiet and relaxation. The Body – At least 20 minutes exercise per day using some easy to follow pictures and suggestions plus ideas for healthy eating. The Spirit – The majority of the book is taken up with a series of daily reflections, rather like a ‘thought for the day’ which encourages the reader to focus on what is important in life. Alongside the above mentioned the ‘rules’ of the challenge include no smoking, alcohol or junk foods and performing an act of unconditional kindness everyday. There is also advice from Robin on how to tackle each challenge, including instruction on how to keep a personal journal in order to write down daily goals and measure progress. I found the act of writing helped me to keep a tangible account of daily activities and monitor my progress. By ticking off each area as it was achieved and noting down personal experiences and observations I was able to focus my attention on past achievements and future goals. It was necessary to get up an hour earlier than usual every morning for the six week challenge in order to do the daily reflections, meditation and journal entries. This was surprising easy at first but became increasingly more difficult as the days any weeks went on and I had been known to fall asleep occasionally while trying to meditate! I stuck religiously to the healthy eating, exercise and no alcohol and was able to continue with a healthier lifestyle long after I’d finished the challenge. It certainly made me appreciate food at mealtimes and encouraged me to find healthier alternatives to chocolate! And you can’t help but lose weight in the process. Recently I caught up with Robin again in order to ask him what had inspired him to write the book in the first place. 'I have known lots of people who have read personal development books, but none of these have given a step-by-step guide to achieving goals,' explained Robin. 'Most people fail to improve their lives not through a lack of desire but because they don’t take action and this is usually due to the fact that they don’t have an effective plan in the first place.' Robin’s book gives the reader the opportunity to think through goals. 'I chose 42days as this is enough time to break old habits and turn ones life around.' Visualisation is not an area that many people are familiar with so I asked Robin to describe this further. 'Don’t be afraid to dream - the mind works in pictures rather than words,' explained Robin. 'It uses the sub-conscious to project an image of what we want in the future and so brining to mind a sense of what it is we are aiming for.' Robin describes the book as 'a companion’ - it starts in the present moment and then encourages the reader to take time out to reflect. 'When I'd finished writing the book I did the challenge myself and I admit it was harder than I thought,' says Robin. 'But towards the end it all seemed a breeze and I didn't want to go back to drinking or eating junk food.' And there are others who have also benefited from taken part in the challenge.'I get letters from people who have done it, writing to let me know how it has benefited them - it's very encouraging!' 42 Days To Wealth, Health and Happiness by Robin Sieger is published by arrow books and can be purchased from all good bookstores and online at www.amazon.co.uk priced £7.99 Copyright 2012 The Biomatrix.Net
